East Rockaway Inlet to Rockway Inlet 2

51社区served as the prime contractor for the rehabilitation of 7.7 miles of shoreline in New York, NY. The purpose of the project was to reduce vulnerability to coastal storm risks, improve coastal resilience, and reduce future coastal storm risks that will support the long-term sustainability of the coastal ecosystem and communities. Work included building a composite sheet pile and concrete seawall and a sand dune and rock mound structure seaward of the wall. The reinforced dune will serve as an effective barrier against erosion and wave attack.

The project required the delivery, handling, and installation of more than 1 million square feet of steel sheet piling, 2.5 million pounds of fabricated steel reinforcement, 34,000 cubic yards of concrete, 385,000 tons of 3-to-5-ton armor stone, 175,000 tons of 1-to-3-ton core stone, and 1.5 million cubic yards of beach fill replenishment. Scopes included nine pedestrian ADA-compliant crossovers, supported by 734 timber piles. The team coordinated closely with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and local stakeholders to navigate environmental and seasonal work restrictions.
